La cité radieuse

Genetically programmed to be a painter, I chose photography at a very early age as a way to survive: it was a profession closest to my preoccupations.

The work of Kurt Schwitters made me abandon gouache painting to start assembling diverse materials and objects. Discovering the 3rd dimension, I became a sculptor for a time, before starting to reconstruct on a small scale my favourite universe: the artists’ rooms.
These mock-ups became the models, in a pictorial sense, for my photographs, and since then I have built them for that purpose.
The polymorphic aspect of my approach has served as guide for the architecture of this website.

Génétiquement programmé pour être peintre, j’ai très tôt choisi la photographie comme métier de survie : le moins éloigné de mes préoccupations.
L’oeuvre de Kurt Schwitters m’a fait abandonner les gouaches pour assembler divers matériaux et objets ; découvrant la troisième dimension j’ai un temps été sculpteur, puis je me suis mis à reconstruire à échelle réduite mon univers de prédilection : les « Artists’rooms ».

Ces maquettes sont devenues les « modèles », au sens pictural du terme,
de mes photographies et depuis je les construis à cette fin .
L’aspect polymorphe de ma démarche a orienté l’architecture de ce site .

Vers 1938, Le Corbusier développe le modèle de « l’Unité d’Habitation » La première unité d’habitation construite est celle de Marseille (« la cité radieuse » ou « la maison du fada » ). Suivront Nantes-Rezé, Briey en Forêt, Berlin et Firminy. En 2005 je suis invité par « La première rue » à exposer dans la Galerie Blanche à Briey en Forêt. J’y loge quelques jours

In around 1938, Le Corbusier developed the “Unité d’habitation”(Housing Unit) concept. The first unit built was Marseille, also known as “la cité radieuse” (the Radiant City) or, informally, “la maison du fada” (the house of the mad). Next to be built were Nantes-Rezé, Briey en Forêt and Firminy. In 2005, I am invited by “La première rue” to present some of my work in the Galerie Blanche in Briey en Forêt, where I will stay for a few days.
